Susan Holland Porter was sustained as first counselor in the Primary general presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 3, 2021. On April 2, 2022, she was released and then sustained as Primary general president, both effective August 1, 2022.

The Primary presidency oversees the Church’s organization that teaches children ages 18 months to 11 years the gospel of Jesus Christ and helps them live its principles. These leaders serve under the direction of the First Presidency and travel frequently to help guide and support the children and their local leaders.

At the time of her call, she had been serving on the Relief Society general advisory council. She has also served as ward Relief Society president, ward Young Women president, stake Relief Society presidency counselor, gospel doctrine teacher, Primary music leader.

Sister Porter was born in July 1955 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and raised in New York. She and her husband, Elder Bruce D. Porter, have four children. He died in December 2016 from a pulmonary infection. The Porters had been living in Moscow, Russia, while he presided over the Europe East Area.

She has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Brigham Young University. She has worked as a lab assistant and part-time math teacher.
