On April 2, 2022, J. Anette Dennis was sustained as first counselor in the Relief Society general presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints effective August 1, 2022.
Sister Dennis has served in many assignments, including the Primary general advisory council, the Church’s Davis County Utah Public Affairs Council, companion to her husband in the Ecuador Guayaquil West Mission, and matron of the Guayaquil Ecuador Temple.
She was born in Provo, Utah, on June 27, 1960, while her parents were students at Brigham Young University. After her father graduated, the family moved next door to her paternal grandparents in rural Mississippi. The family later moved to Tennessee, Iowa, and Nebraska before returning to Utah.
She studied elementary education at Brigham Young University with a minor in Spanish. She and her husband, Jorge Dennis, were married in September 1980 and lived for a time in Mexico. They have four children and nine grandchildren.
Sister Dennis also served in the Church as stake Relief Society secretary, ward Primary president, ward Relief Society and Young Women presidency counselor, Relief Society teacher, and temple ordinance worker.
