Lisa Harkness was sustained as the first counselor in the Primary general presidency at General Conference on March 31, 2018. She had been serving on the Primary general board since September 2017. “The Primary presidency oversees the Church’s organization that teaches children ages 18 months to 11 years the gospel of Jesus Christ and helps them live its principles. These leaders serve under the direction of the First Presidency and travel frequently to help guide and support the children and their local leaders.”[1]

She has served in many positions in the Church previously, including Young Women president, Relief Society president, gospel doctrine teacher, and full-time missionary in the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission. She has a bachelor’s degree in political science and secondary teaching from Brigham Young University.

She and her husband, David Harkness, are the parents of five children.
