Secretary
A secretary of an organization manages “routine and detail work for a superior”[1]. Within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, secretaries are called to assist the presidencies and bishoprics of each stake and ward.
Stake and ward executive secretaries hold the Melchizedek Priesthood and are worthy to hold a temple recommend. Various responsibilities of a stake executive secretary include meeting with the stake presidency, serving as a member of the stake council, coordinate stake business, and schedule appointments for the stake presidency. He is not a member of the stake presidency.
A ward executive secretary has been recommended to the stake presidency by a bishopric and then the ward executive secretary is called and set apart by a member of the stake presidency. Although the ward executive secretary works closely with the bishopric, he is not a member of the bishopric. He meets with the bishopric, serves as a member of the ward council, schedules appointments for the bishopric, schedules interviews for youth and adults of the ward who need to renew temple recommends.
Secretaries are called for these stake organization presidencies: Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary; and ward presidencies: Sunday School, Relief Society, Young Women, Primary, and elders quorums.
Secretaries also serve the First Presidency, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and other general authorities and general officers.
