The Maputo Mozambique Temple was among the seventeen new temples announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the October 2024 general conference. The Maputo Mozambique Temple will be the country's second temple—the first, the Beira Mozambique Temple, was announced in April 2021.[1]
Nearly 25,000 Latter-day Saints in about 70 congregations reside in the southern Africa nation of Mozambique, with the capital city of Maputo boasting a population of more than 1 million. Missionary work formally began in the country in 1999.[2]
