The Lagos Nigeria Temple is the second temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be built in Nigeria. It was announced by President Russell M. Nelson on October 7, 2018. The first, the Aba Nigeria Temple, was dedicated in 2005. A third in Benin City was announced in April 2020.

With a population of over 23 million, the Lagos conurbation is the largest in Africa.[1]

The Church of Jesus Christ was officially established in Nigeria in 1978. Church membership in Nigeria is over 220,000 in 770 congregations.[2] In 1988, the first stake in Nigeria was organized in Aba.

Location

The Lagos Nigeria Temple will be built on a 2.7-acre site located at Rumens Road and Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria. Plans call for a one-story temple of approximately 19,800 square feet. An arrival center and patron housing will also be constructed on the site.
